A: The potatoes were amazing- if I could have them every single day with every single meal, I would! They were perfectly crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. As for the potato pancakes- they were good, but I felt like they were missing something to make them great. If I were to add anything, I would probably add a little bit more onion for a small extra kick.
I'm not a huge coffee person, but have enjoyed quite a few whipped coffees In my college days when it was trending all over Tik Tok. The Greek Frappe was good if you like that slight bitterness of coffee, but I wish that there was more milk added to it, rather than a pure whip. I can't negatively rate this though, because I got exactly what I ordered (it's not the restaurant's fault that I ordered something I knew I would most likely not be a fan of!). If you like coffee, you would very much enjoy this drink.
D: I really enjoyed my omelette- adequately loaded with ham and bacon. I ordered it with habanero ghost pepper cheese because I'm a big fan of the spice and was very pleased with the amount of spice on this omelette. The hashbrowns were the perfect amount of crisp golden brown. Extra points for the freshly squeezed orange juice (the machine that does it sits in eye sight)- you don't get that in very many places!
Presentation: 7 (Allie) + 7 (Dustin)
This restaurant focuses on the taste of the food overall, so it's no surprise that they did not go above and beyond on presentation. (Which is okay, it's not important to us).
Service: 10 (Allie) + 10 (Dustin)
We were quickly seated upon arrival and our orders were taken promptly with food coming out about 10 minutes afterward. Our server was very kind and checked up on us here and there.
Atmosphere: 7 (Allie) + 9 (Dustin)
A: This restaurant was extremely clean with a great vibe. There were funny quotes sprinkled here and there (I.e. "A good mother lets you lick the beaters, a great mother turns them off first" and "Smile, you're losing weight" (In the bathroom). It is an open-concept type of space, so it's no surprise that the voices of other patrons sounded a little amplified.
D: I liked it- it was clean and not too loud.
Value for money: 7 (Allie) + 7.5 (Dustin)
A: I felt that it was kind of expensive. Other breakfast restaurants would charge about $15-17 for an entree and two sides. I don't feel like my pancakes, three slices of bacon, and potatoes were worth $23. Luckily, it is not out of budget, but I think it would have been worth it's value if the pancakes came with a side. As for the drinks, I think that those were reasonably priced.
D: It was reasonably priced for this day and age. It was kind of expensive, but I'm not surprised- it's proabably about what you would pay for other restaurants in Rochester.
Menu Variety: 10 (Allie) + 8.5 (Dustin)
A: I liked that they had many different options to choose from and I liked that everything was customizable (I.e. being able to choose toppings, take something off, add something in, etc). Each category (breakfasts. drinks, entrees, salads, burgers, etc) had many different items listed. You can go here many different times and try something new with each visit!
D: They had good selections overall and it wasn't too overwhelming to choose something I wanted.
Specialty and Uniqueness: 10 (Allie) + 6 (Dustin)
A: Hollandberry Pannekoeken is unique because they have a signature dish that they are known for and people travel from all over to try it. I felt that they are also unique that they have a wide variety of meals, bakery items, and drinks to choose from that most people can't get at your typical breakfast restaurant.
D: I felt the only interesting thing was the staff yelling "Pannekoeken! Pannekoeken!" as they brought the pannekoeken to their customers. It was pretty entertaining to see.
Overall Rating: 8.25/10 Bites
Hollandberry Pannekoeken is a longtime Rochester favorite known for its signature Dutch pancakes and wide variety of customizable breakfast options. The food focuses on flavor over presentation — highlights include perfectly crispy potatoes, loaded omelets, and freshly squeezed orange juice. Service is friendly and fast, and the restaurant is clean with a lighthearted, welcoming atmosphere (bonus points for the entertaining “Pannekoeken!” shouts when dishes are served).
While prices can feel a bit high compared to other breakfast spots, the extensive menu and unique offerings make it easy to find something new each visit. If you love potatoes, hearty breakfasts, or just want to try a local classic, this is a fun spot to check out.
